A Lagos woman has landed in jail after being caught disposing of waste in a drainage channel during rainfall.

A 53-year-old Lagos woman has been locked up for one month after she was caught throwing refuse into a drainage channel while it was raining.
Nelly Monday was arrested in Meiran on Wednesday and brought to court at Bolade, Oshodi, where she admitted to the offence.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority confirmed the conviction and warned people to stop dumping garbage wherever they please.
Waste left in drains blocks water flow during heavy rains and causes flooding across the city.
LAWMA said they will keep hunting down people breaking environmental laws and working with other agencies to punish them.
The authority told residents to throw their trash properly using only approved waste collection points.
