Lagos Fires Destroy Millions in Goods as Emergency Teams Battle Multiple Incidents

Two fires have destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency reported the incidents, which occurred in Ikorodu and Surulere on Monday.

The first fire broke out early Monday morning at Adamo Bus Stop in Ikorodu, starting in a hairdressing shop after faulty electrical wiring sparked a flame that caught the roof.

The fire spread to nearby shops, destroying three businesses and their goods in the process.

Emergency responders from the state's emergency agency and fire service rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control, then carried out dampening operations to prevent it from reigniting. No one was hurt.

Later that morning, a second fire gutted two shops at Olatunde Onimole Street near Bakery Bus Stop in Surulere.

One shop sold furniture while the other sold provisions, and both were completely destroyed along with everything inside.

The cause hasn't been determined yet, but again, no casualties or injuries were reported and dampening operations were conducted.

In addition to the fires, emergency teams also responded to several road incidents across Lagos between Sunday and Monday.

A truck carrying soft drinks broke down at Olupese Bus Stop on Sunday, blocking traffic until emergency crews and traffic officials removed it using heavy equipment and restored the flow.

Also on Sunday, a commercial bus overturned on Third Mainland Bridge after a tyre burst, and paramedics attended to those affected before the vehicle was towed away.

Early Monday, an empty tanker broke down on Ilupeju Road but was quickly moved to a lay-by to allow traffic to resume.

The state's emergency agency praised responders for their work across all incidents and urged residents to maintain their vehicles properly and follow electrical safety standards to prevent future emergencies.
