A seven year old girl in Anambra State has been rescued after residents raised the alarm over injuries allegedly caused by her mother.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly infl!cting bodily injuries on her seven-year-old daughter in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The child, Oluebube, was reportedly burned with a hot knife after being accused of taking meat from a cooking pot.
Community security personnel and residents alerted police on Sunday, leading to the arrest of the mother, Ogechi Ofoma, who is now in custody at Awada Police Station pending investigation.
The police spokesperson condemned the incident as brutal ab*se and reaffirmed the command's commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
The Police Commissioner has begun working with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to ensure the child receives immediate medical care, protection and support.
Officials praised the community security personnel and residents whose quick action helped rescue the child from further harm.
The police assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and professional, with the child's welfare and safety as the priority.
The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare described the act as inhumane and a violation of the child's rights and dignity.
She commended police for their swift response and warned that anyone found guilty of harming children would face the full force of the law.
The commissioner called on residents to report suspected cases of child maltreatment to authorities and reaffirmed the state government's commitment under Governor Chukwuma Soludo to creating a safer environment where children are protected from violence and exploitation.
