A 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was kidn@pped in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State has been found and rescued near a security checkpoint in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Unidentified persons abandoned the teenager near Ekene Junction on Oguta Road after security operatives stopped their black Toyota Highlander SUV and chased them.
A joint patrol team at the checkpoint spotted the boy being dropped off and immediately rushed to help him, preventing any further harm while the suspects got away.
The rescue came after a joint security operation on Sunday night.
Police say they're now working to identify and arrest those responsible and have stepped up surveillance and intelligence operations across the area.
The police commissioner praised the patrol team for their alertness and professionalism and urged officers to continue with intelligence-led patrols and coordinated security operations.
The command asked members of the public, particularly those in Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State who might know the victim's family, to contact the nearest police station with information.
Police reassured residents and visitors of their commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring criminals have nowhere to hide in the state. No arrests had been made as of reporting time.
