Nyesom Wike has made his position ahead of the 2027 election clear, saying his support for President Tinubu remains firm despite his continued ties to the PDP.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said his support for President Tinubu's re-election in 2027 is unwavering and that he never promised the Peoples Democratic Party would not run candidates for governorship and legislative elections.
Wike clarified that the rainbow coalition supporting Tinubu has nothing to do with the All Progressives Congress.
It's simply a platform for people from different political parties who back the President based on how he's performed in office.
He stressed that politics is local and those with state-level problems should deal with them rather than use the presidential election to stir up emotions.
Wike said he never met with the APC before he and other G5 members supported Tinubu in 2023, and his current support is purely for the President.
He asked how the APC won Senate seats in states like Imo, Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi in 2023 when the President got less than 15 per cent there.
Voters in those states voted APC for the Senate but voted differently for President, showing they can distinguish between elections.
They won't be confused in 2027 if everyone genuinely supports the President, he said.
Wike urged political leaders to focus on the presidential election first, then return to state-level races afterwards.
His message was clear: he will mobilise support for Tinubu's re-election, but the PDP can still run candidates in other elections.
