Zamfara State has started a major fumigation exercise aimed at reducing mosquitoes and other insects that spread diseases such as malaria.

Governor Dauda Lawal has approved a statewide fumigation exercise to kill mosquitoes and other insects spreading malaria and other illnesses.
The head of the Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency announced this while starting the distribution of fumigation materials in Gusau yesterday.
The exercise will cover different parts of the state, starting with selected areas in Gusau, including Mayana, Sabon Gari, Tudun Wada, Madawaki and Galadima.
The fumigation is meant to reduce mosquitoes and other insects that spread diseases like malaria.
Officials praised the governor for approving the exercise in time to protect people's health and improve environmental cleanliness.
The agency has sent staff and monitoring teams to oversee the fumigation across the designated areas.
In Mayana, a health worker named Kabiru Muhammad Maru led the exercise, starting at the home of the District Head of Mayana, Alhaji Mustapha Musa Mayana.
The team also fumigated an Islamic school near Gadar Farna in the same area.
Officials encouraged residents to keep their surroundings clean as part of the effort to prevent disease.
