The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Delta State has seized nearly 2.5 tonnes of illegal drugs worth about 2 billion naira between July 2025 and September 2026.

The NDLEA commander said the agency also got 248 drug dealers convicted during this time, while 223 cases are still waiting in court.

The drugs seized include large amounts of cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and various prescription drugs being sold illegally.

The agency also seized over 1,300 litres of liquid drugs like codeine and other injections.

One major operation was a raid on a warehouse in Asaba market where drugs worth over 150 million naira were found.

The agency also stopped three trucks loaded with codeine and other substances worth 150 million and 100 million naira respectively.

Two buses were intercepted on the Onitsha-Asaba road carrying illegal drugs valued at over 300 million naira.

The agency destroyed over 35 hectares of cannabis farms across the state.

It also counselled 693 drug users during the period.

The NDLEA commander said the agency is working hard to prevent drug traffickers from using Delta State as a route or storage point for illegal drugs.
