The Nigeria Police Force has given money to 25 families in Jigawa whose loved ones died while serving as police officers.

The Nigeria Police Force has presented more than ₦25.9 million to 25 families in Jigawa State whose relatives died in active service.
The payments were made through the Force's Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme, which provides financial relief to dependants of officers lost in the line of duty.
The disbursement aims to lighten the financial strain on families following the death of their loved ones and acknowledges the sacrifice made by police personnel in serving the nation.
It forms part of a broader police commitment to supporting those left behind after officers fall.
This latest distribution follows a larger national payout earlier this month when Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu handed out cheques totalling ₦2.317 billion to almost 3,000 beneficiaries and relatives of deceased officers.
That nationwide payment covered multiple insurance years ranging from 2017 to 2025 and included outstanding amounts recovered from insurance companies after earlier partial settlements.
The Police Force views such payments as more than mere compensation, framing them instead as an institutional duty owed to families of those who gave their lives for the country.
The families in Jigawa are expected to use the funds to care for their dependants, while the gesture serves as a reminder of the dangers facing police personnel and underscores the need for sustained welfare assistance to their families after death.
