The chairman of Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Uno Etim, has approved a monthly stipend of N20,000 for each National Youth Service Corps member posted to the area.

The announcement came Tuesday during a visit from the serving corps members.

Chief Uno told the young people to think of the area as home during their year of service and assured them of full support to help them work effectively.

He promised that housing and welfare issues would be handled quickly and ordered the Works Department to check their accommodation and plan any repairs or upgrades needed.

The chairman framed the N20,000 monthly payment as proof of his administration's backing for young Nigerians sent to the area to offer their skills and energy toward development.

He pledged that safety and welfare would remain top priorities for his government.

The corps members' liaison officer, Ukachukwu Ifeanyi, thanked the chairman for the various development projects his administration has rolled out across the local government.
