A suspected poisonous herbal drink has been linked to dozens of deaths in Ondo State, with about 170 people reportedly affected.

At least 49 people have died after consuming a suspected toxic herbal drink in Ondo State, with about 170 others affected by the outbreak.
The health crisis began in Araromi-Obu and Odigbo communities in Odigbo Local Government Area but has since reached Irele Local Government Area, where eight deaths have been recorded.
State Health Commissioner Dr Banji Ajaka announced the grim toll Wednesday, confirming that the number of people sickened had climbed to roughly 170 including those still receiving care and those who have died.
The commissioner said Irele is now the centre of the crisis, with many losses reported there in recent days.
Health Commissioner Dr Banji Ajaka linked the deaths to the consumption of ethanol and said medical teams have been sent to the affected communities.
The state government has strengthened efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent it from spreading to other local government areas.
Police have arrested Oloruntoba Babatunde, known as "Meko", on suspicion of producing the herbal liquid at the centre of the crisis.
Authorities also arrested 14 others for violating a local government ban on selling herbal products. An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the deaths.
Babatunde is suspected of manufacturing substances that may contain methanol and is cooperating with investigators.
Police say coordinated action by security, medical and investigative teams has brought the situation under control.
The remains of those who died are undergoing medical and forensic examination as the probe continues. More details will be released as the investigation advances.
