A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and federal lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said FCT Minister Nyesom Wike remains valuable to the ruling party and should not face public criticism.

Jibrin made the remarks Wednesday on Television news while defending Wike against complaints from some APC governors over his continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party despite backing President Tinubu's second-term ambitions.

Jibrin stressed that every APC member has benefited from Wike's role in delivering Tinubu as President and his work managing government.

He said Wike's contributions should be recognised rather than attacked in public statements, describing him as an asset whose sacrifices for the President and party merit protection from embarrassment.

The Kano lawmaker said his intervention was not personal but rooted in concern about maintaining stability as the party pursues securing Tinubu's re-election.

He noted that Wike handed Rivers State to the APC, convinced his own FCT election candidates to step aside for party nominees and joined the government as part of a national unity coalition.

Jibrin argued that Wike's decision to remain in the PDP while supporting the President was not unusual, pointing out that politicians from other parties including the NDC and ADC also work with Tinubu.

He urged APC governors with issues against Wike to discuss them privately rather than making public statements, saying Wike should be treated as part of the governing coalition.

The comments came amid criticism from governors including Kwara's AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Imo's Hope Uzodimma over Wike's continued PDP membership while mobilising backing for Tinubu's 2027 bid through his Rainbow Coalition.

Jibrin maintained that Wike's political support has produced electoral gains, pointing to the APC's victory in five of six Area Councils in recent FCT elections.
