A young Alabama woman will spend the rest of her life in prison after admitting to the death of her newborn baby.

An Alabama woman has been sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty to k!lling her newborn in 2023.
Jakayla Williams, who was 18, gave birth in secret at her Dothan home and placed the baby boy in a dumpster fitted with a trash compactor at an apartment complex on the west side of town.
Authorities recovered the infant's body at a dump wrapped in a mattress protector inside a zipped duffel bag.
Investigators believe the child was alive when Williams placed him in the compactor.
Williams took a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, which prosecutors had been pursuing.
She pleaded guilty to capital murder and received a life sentence with no possibility of release.
The case came to light in August 2023 after hospital staff alerted police that Williams and her mother were at Southeast Health searching for a baby.
Williams initially told officers she had given birth at home on August 13 and handed the infant to a nurse at the hospital.
Police reviewed surveillance footage showing Williams never appeared at the facility, contradicting her account.
When questioned again, Williams eventually admitted what had happened to the baby after hours of interrogation.
