The Lagos Task Force has told transport unions to stop giving pedestrian walkways and public spaces to street traders.
Chairman Adetayo Akerele issued the warning Thursday after meeting with union leaders, market chiefs and traders at the Oshodi Safety Arena Wednesday.
Akerele said the agency would keep enforcing against obstructions of walkways, road setbacks and public spaces.
He voiced alarm that some union officials are handing over these areas to petty traders, blocking movement and creating environmental mess.
The task force wants stakeholders to help protect public spaces from illegal takeover.
The unit is working with other state agencies on waste management and ending open defecation.
Akerele stressed that enforcement alone cannot create a clean and safe environment it requires everyone to pitch in.
He ordered scrap dealers to register all members and provide proper identification.
Better tracking improves accountability and security while helping police tell legitimate operators from criminals.
The chairman said the engagement shows the task force's dedication to working with stakeholders to safeguard public spaces and infrastructure while making Lagos cleaner and safer.
