Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago says graduates working on his farm earn at least ₦500,000 every month.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago says his farm pays graduates a minimum of 500,000 naira monthly.
Bago made the statement in Lagos while opening the FirstBank Agric & Export Expo 2026.
He used the farm wage to highlight agriculture's potential as an employment and economic growth driver.
The governor said his farm wages are higher than what many government workers and some bank employees earn.
He joked that he could recruit FirstBank workers earning less than his farm's minimum wage.
Bago's point was that private agricultural enterprises offer attractive job opportunities.
He called on more private investors to venture into farming and agribusiness.
The governor also warned that Nigeria's reliance on food imports was unsustainable and unsettling.
The country imported food worth more than 3 billion dollars in one year, with figures potentially reaching 4 billion dollars by year-end.
He stressed the need for a deliberate national policy to prioritise domestic food production, calling food sovereignty paramount.
