The Peoples Democratic Party's gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, says directors in the state civil service use tricycles to get to work because of poor conditions under Governor Alex Otti.
Anosike told journalists on Thursday in Abuja that Abia workers are struggling with rising living costs.
The government has not been able to pay the minimum wage to all workers despite receiving billions of naira monthly from federal allocations.
Anosike said he would offer a minimum wage of 90,000 naira or more if elected in 2027.
He also pledged to rehire 15,000 workers Otti had sacked.
Currently, the government pays some workers 50,000 naira, others 60,000 and some 70,000, even though the national benchmark is 70,000.
Anosike said while directors in other states have official cars, Abia directors use tricycles to work.
He promised to restore the dignity of Abia workers, give them a sense of belonging and motivate them to work.
Anosike is challenging Otti, the Labour Party incumbent, in the 2027 election alongside other opposition candidates.
