The Bayelsa State Government has started removing buildings and other structures blocking roads and public spaces in Yenagoa.

Bayelsa State Physical Planning Board has intensified demolition of illegal structures blocking government rights-of-way in Yenagoa.
The demolition happened Thursday on Etegwe axis of the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, Bay-Bridge Road and INEC Road in Kpansia. Structures identified as obstructing designated areas were pulled down.
The exercise is part of the state government's effort to clean up the capital city and enforce compliance with planning regulations.
Board Chairman Kuroakegha Dorgu said the demolition aligns with Governor Douye Diri's urban renewal and physical development agenda.
The board is committed to ensuring development conforms to approved planning standards, government layouts and designated rights of way.
Dorgu said the exercise is not just about removing illegal structures but part of a broader effort to improve accessibility, safety and the appearance of Yenagoa.
The board will continue enforcement and sensitisation to protect public spaces and promote orderly development across the metropolis.
Dorgu urged property owners, developers, traders and residents to follow approved planning regulations and stop erecting structures on government rights of way and public spaces.
He said the state government remains committed to creating conditions for orderly development and will continue working to improve the organisation and appearance of the state capital.
