Abia State Police have arrested four people for allegedly stealing a newborn baby and selling her.
The suspects Gladys Nathaniel, Victor Udochukwu, Chijioke Obunwa and Onyeonoro Chinwe were arrested on September 16, 2026.
They conspired to take the four-day-old infant from her mentally unstable mother and then sold the baby to someone else.
Police rescued both the baby and her mother.
The mother has been released to her family for proper care and medical attention.
The newborn has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for protective custody.
The four suspects are in police custody.
Investigation is still ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Once the investigation concludes, they will be charged to court.
