A surprise raid in Badagry has uncovered a juice-making operation that authorities say was running without proper registration.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps raided an illegal juice factory in Badagry, Lagos on September 19, 2026, and arrested two women aged 48 and 50.
The factory was producing a drink called Barkas Juice in an unregistered facility on Talabi Onilegbale Street.
The product bore a fraudulent NAFDAC registration number.
A truck loaded with juice was still parked there waiting to be distributed.
Inside the bungalow used for production, operatives found cartons of the drink and rolls of product labels.
The same building served as a residence.
A dirty well on the premises was allegedly the source of water for production.
An unclean industrial storage tank was also there.
The NSCDC said it conducted five days of surveillance after getting intelligence about the location.
Products from the factory were being sent to Edo State and other parts of Nigeria.
During the operation, youths in the community resisted.
The NSCDC had to call in the Nigerian Army for backup to prevent attacks on operatives. Community members also helped make the operation successful.
NAFDAC confirmed the drink was not registered.
The NSCDC alleged the product contained high levels of sugar, additives and dyes, though no lab results were provided.
The primary suspect, Morenikeji Alawiye, told The Guardian the facility was established by her grandmother nearly 20 years ago.
She said it was shut down before but she was trying to regularize operations when arrested.
The family previously made bottled and sachet water.
She said an uncle at NAFDAC was helping her get approvals, and an aunt had connected her with a customer in The Gambia interested in exporting the product.
