Kano State is launching a major plan to help thousands of people struggling with drug abuse get off the streets and start new lives.

Kano State is targeting 10,000 drug abusers on the streets for rehabilitation and skills training.
The Multi-Agency Task Force chairman Muhuyi Rimin Gado made the announcement Tuesday.
The goal is to get them off the streets, rehabilitate them, train them and send them back to society as reformed people the community can trust.
Governor Abba Yusuf has provided a new facility in Tofa Local Government Area as an extension to the existing Kiru reformatory institute.
The state found it necessary because demand for rehabilitation is growing.
Families are now voluntarily bringing loved ones for treatment.
The Kiru reformatory is at capacity.
The new facility will be equipped and used immediately so no one seeking help is turned away.
The Task Force has referred about 125 people for rehabilitation so far.
Drug abuse is a sickness needing healing, the chairman said.
In one case, the former Chairman of Rogo Local Government, Yahuza Musa, illegally gave Pentazocine injections to a 63-year-old woman.
A 24-year-old man said he spent over 10 million naira and a plot of land buying the same injection from the former chairman.
Musa has been charged in court and the case is ongoing.
The Task Force is working with industrial stakeholders on strategies for employment and skills training for rehabilitated youths.
Rimin Gado thanked security agencies and the community for their support.
He urged continued information sharing to keep streets safe and help businesses prosper.
