A former university union leader named Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie said Igbo leaders should speak out and stop some Igbo politicians from attacking Peter Obi.
Peter Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress party.
Awuzie spoke to journalists in Owerri on Wednesday.
He said the governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, should stop attacking Obi's past record.
He said they should focus on doing their own jobs instead.
Awuzie said he is worried because Igbo leaders are not speaking up about this situation.
He asked why the elders of the Southeast and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo organization are not telling Soludo and Umahi to stop attacking Obi and leave him alone.
He said Soludo and Umahi should do their jobs well as governor and minister.
He said there should be a limit to greed, envy and jealousy.
He said no matter how much they try to say bad things about Obi, they cannot match him.
He said Igbo elders should rise up and show leadership by stopping this.
Awuzie said Peter Obi is the kind of leader Nigeria needs right now.
He said Obi is a different kind of politician.
He said if Nigerians know what is good for them, they should support Peter Obi.
He said that even if President Bola Tinubu and his supporters say bad things about Obi, it will not hurt Obi's good character and reputation.
He said Obi is a model that Igbo people are proud of.
He said he believes other Nigerians are also proud of Obi.
He said wherever Obi goes in the country, people come out to welcome him.
