England should not try to copy Spain and instead play to their own strengths, according to winger Anthony Gordon.

England face Spain at Wembley on Saturday in their first match since the World Cup, where Thomas Tuchel's side reached the semi-finals and beat France for third place.

Gordon believes England should focus on what they do best rather than trying to match Spain's possession-based approach.

Speaking to an online sports outlet, he said England keeps looking at other countries and trying to be like them, but they are English with their own strengths that others don't have.

He said maybe they should start playing the way they are good at.

Gordon moved from Newcastle to Barcelona for 69.3 million pounds in the summer and has gained experience of Spanish football firsthand.

That experience has given him a different view of how Spanish players control games.

He said he feels England is trying to copy Spain, but knowing Spain now, he believes England has just as good players, only with different qualities.

He questioned why England tries to make their players the same as Spanish ones.

Gordon also questioned whether Spain's power to dominate possession is something that can simply be taught.

He said it is not in the English DNA and he is not sure it can be taught.

Playing in Spain now, he can speak with knowledge about how they keep the ball in a different way.

It is the way they are built, and he is not sure whether it is something England can put a name to, but they are definitely built different.

Gordon also spoke about England's World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina, calling the aftermath one of the lowest moments of his career.

He said he has never felt worse.

But he believes the pain could give England drive in future tournaments.

He said the scar does not have to be bad because it might lead them to victory in the next tournaments.
