A boat carrying eight people has capsized at Dudduru Pond in Jigawa State, leaving four passengers dead and four others rescued.

Four passengers have d+ed after a boat carrying eight people capsized at Dudduru Pond in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident happened on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at about 4pm at the pond, roughly three kilometres from Kwadige Village in Dutse LGA.
The boat was moving eight passengers from Kwadige Village to Chai Chai Sabuwa Market when it flipped while crossing the pond.
Early information suggests strong winds at the time may have caused the capsizing.
Four passengers, all females, lost their lives while four others were rescued.
The d£ceased victims were identified as Hasiya Mu'azu, 13; Hauwa Lawan, 13; Fatima Lawan, 12; and Dawsiyya Lawan, 13.
The four d£ceased were buried according to Islamic customs.
Farmers working around the pond at the time rescued the four survivors.
Residents of Kwadige and Kuna villages worked together to help those affected.
The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps expressed sadness to the families of the d£ceased and the entire Kwadige community.
He urged members of the public who use boats for travel to be very careful on waterways.
Boat operators and passengers should follow basic water safety rules and avoid travelling during dangerous conditions.
The corps advised against travelling during strong winds and bad weather to protect lives.
The command said it has continued to teach communities about safety steps when using waterways.
