Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has embraced Islam after reciting the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar, where he currently plays for Al-Ahli.
The 33-year-old Nigerian defender announced his conversion after pronouncing the two testimonies of faith.
A video of the footballer reciting the Shahadah surfaced online, with an Islamic cleric sharing footage of the former Nigeria captain reciting the testimonies on social media.
Reports say Troost-Ekong expressed a wish to read more and learn about Islam.
Troost-Ekong moved to the Arab region in 2024 when he joined Saudi Arabia before switching to Al-Ahli in Qatar in January 2026 on a one-and-a-half-year deal.
