The Lagos Waste Management Authority has arrested seven suspected illegal waste dumpers during a night enforcement operation in the Pattey area of Lagos Island.
The operation on Wednesday was part of LAWMA's push to stop illegal waste dumping and enforce environmental rules across the state.
The managing director of LAWMA said the suspects were caught and will face court.
The suspects were named as Nafisat Alabi, 30, from Kwara; Aminullah Abdulrasheed, 49, from Kwara; Segun Adeyemi, 45, from Ogun; Gboyega Osuntuyi, 44, from Ekiti; Segun Olowe, 26, from Osun; Adebayo Ibrahim, 29, from Oyo; and Stephen Ogboru, 36, from Delta.
The enforcement operation met resistance when suspected hoodlums stormed the LAWMA field office in the area and tried to stop the officers.
Police deployed a tactical team from the Lion Building station to help the enforcement workers and control the situation.
The managing director said LAWMA will keep enforcing waste rules across the state.
He said watching and enforcement are needed to stop illegal dumping and push proper waste handling.
The seven suspects were moved to the Task Force Office in Oshodi for court action.
The LAWMA boss praised police for quick help and asked residents, traders and businesses to back LAWMA's work.
He also warned people not to block enforcement staff doing their jobs.
