The Nigerian Army has taken its fight against drug abuse into Yobe schools, bringing hundreds of students together for a campaign focused on education, discipline and positive choices.

The Nigerian Army has launched a drug awareness campaign targeting students in Yobe State, emphasizing education as a tool for preventing substance abuse and protecting national security.
The Sector 2 commander of the Joint Task Force leading Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Edet Effiong, led Thursday's event at Government Girls Unity College in Damaturu, drawing more than 300 students from schools across the state.
Effiong described drug abuse as a direct threat to young people's wellbeing and future.
Its effects ripple far beyond individuals to families, communities and ultimately national security.
He urged students to make positive choices, rely on education and discipline, and resist harmful substances.
These three tools form the defence against drugs, he told them.
The Army stressed that combating drug abuse also serves broader security goals by denying criminal and terrorist networks chances to exploit vulnerable young people or profit from illegal activities.
The sector reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community resilience through engagement with young people and collaboration with government agencies.
Idriss Mohammed Fune, director of schools for Yobe's education ministry, commended the initiative and encouraged students to spread the anti-drug message within their families and communities.
He urged educators to maintain awareness campaigns about substance abuse in schools.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency provided presenters for the event.
Students received writing materials and souvenirs.
The Army said this non-military component complements ongoing operations by addressing root causes of crime and insecurity through public awareness, community strength and long-term security measures.
