Akwa Ibom State is rolling out several programmes to help farmers produce more food and earn more money.

Akwa Ibom State Government has launched several initiatives to boost farming and food production over the past three years under Governor Umo Eno's administration.
The state set up a farm equipment leasing company where farmers can rent tractors and farm implements at half the regular market price.
This push for mechanized farming allows farmers to work faster and produce more than using traditional methods with hoes and cutlasses, the Agriculture Commissioner explained.
The state also gave out over two billion naira in grants to farmers as part of its broader agricultural strategy.
It paid counterpart funds to repair 486 rural roads through an agricultural marketing programme, helping farmers transport their produce from fields to markets more easily.
Other achievements include establishing an Ibom Model Farm and revamping the state agricultural development programme to connect farmers with research institutions and technical support.
A major focus has been the tree crop revolution programme, which distributed over 120,000 oil palm seedlings across 31 local government areas.
The initiative promotes oil palm farming as a way to build generational wealth and long-term family income, similar to how parents invested in education and family welfare in the past.
The programme has attracted not just traditional farmers but people from various walks of life interested in growing oil palm.
This widespread adoption is why it is called a revolution, officials said.
So far 14 local government areas have received seedlings, with 1,700 farmers already benefiting in areas where distribution has taken place.
