Nigerian civil servants are warning that they could stop work for three days from October 2 if the Federal Government does not respond to their demands by September 30.

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Union Side, has threatened to mobilise public servants for a three-day warning strike from October 2 if the Federal Government fails to act on its demands by September 30.
The demands cover fuel prices, a wage award and the start of talks on a new national minimum wage.
The council said its deadline to the government remains fixed and that failure to act would leave workers with no choice but to strike.
National Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, who is also General Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, made this known in a statement on Monday.
He said the three issues are key to workers welfare and buying power and need urgent attention.
On fuel, the council wants the pump price of petrol brought down to N500 per litre.
It proposed an intervention fund to cover landing costs and support oil and gas operators, and asked the government to make crude oil available to Dangote Refinery and modular refinery operators.
It said petrol now sells for between N1,450 and N2,500 per litre in many places outside major cities, calling this unacceptable and a threat to the survival of workers and their families.
The council also wants a wage award paid at once to ease the pain of rising living costs for workers and other vulnerable Nigerians.
It said better welfare will help public servants stay committed and productive.
Its third demand is the immediate setting up of a tripartite committee to prepare for talks on the new national minimum wage due in 2027.
Gbenga said delay could leave a gap between the end of the current wage framework and the start of a new one, so the committee should be formed early enough to finish talks without holding up implementation.
The council warned that Nigerian workers will not hesitate to begin the three-day warning strike from Friday, October 2, if nothing is done by September 30.
It urged President Bola Tinubu to address the issues in his Independence Day speech and said silence would bring the anger of workers, their families and ordinary Nigerians.
