Makinde Says Nigerians Will Decide 2027 as He Promises to Reset Nigeria in Four Years

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, says the 2027 election will not be decided by political calculations, pollsters or the number of rich people in a party.

He said the voters will decide.

He spoke on Monday at the APM north-central town hall in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

He said no amount of money or number of millionaires can win the vote, and that serving the people takes energy, which he says he has.

He said Oyo has already started work on its 2027 budget by visiting the zones in the state to hear what people want, as it has done for seven years.

Makinde criticised the federal budget process, saying it is often late and does not reflect what Nigerians need.

He questioned the expansion of army divisions to 12, saying he could not find any item for it in the 2026 budget and that such a move needs proper planning.

He agreed that states now get more money from the federation account but said it has not helped fight hunger.

He said Oyo cut its dependence on federal allocation from over 80 percent in 2019 to 65 percent in 2022, but it has climbed back to almost 80 percent since 2023 because of what he called the voodoo economy of the federal government.

Calling himself a resetter, Makinde said his reset agenda can be done in four years.

He pointed to a past head of state who ended military rule in just 10 months.

He promised a new security setup, a new path for education, and an economy run on data, science and logic.

APM vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura said Nigerians want change and real improvement, and described their politics as honest, sincere and focused.

Party national chairman Yusuf Dantalle said past and present governments tried but it has not translated into development, so the country needs to do things differently and work with people who have proven they can deliver.
