Senator Iyabo Obasanjo says she is worried about her safety after armed men reportedly disrupted a PDP gathering in Abeokuta.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has said her life is under renewed threat after an attack on a PDP campaign gathering in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday.
She is the PDP candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District in the coming National Assembly election.
She said she was putting the United Nations, the United States Embassy in Nigeria and the international community on notice over the threats and the credibility of the January 2027 elections.
She spoke to Splash FM late Monday after seeing videos online of men, some masked and allegedly carrying cutlasses, pulling down campaign canopies and attacking people at the venue shortly before she arrived.
She warned that if the political violence continues, she and her associates will seek international attention.
She said this was not the first attempt on her life and recalled a 2003 election incident in which she claimed gunmen fired at a vehicle in her convoy thinking she was inside, killing everyone in it.
She added that if anything happens to her, the world should know who is behind it.
The attack happened at Ward 16, Trailer Park, Soyooye area of Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
Witnesses said more than 10 armed men, carrying cutlasses, axes and other weapons, stormed the venue shortly before PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and Obasanjo arrived.
The campaign team reportedly held back for a while as tension rose.
When the two candidates got there, they met supporters and saw damaged chairs and tables. Some people were said to be injured.
They called the Ogun State Police Command and the DSS, and police and DSS operatives came to the scene.
Early accounts online claim some supporters were robbed of phones and valuables and campaign materials were damaged.
The identity and political links of the attackers have not been independently confirmed.
Ogun police spokesman Seyi Babaseyi could not immediately confirm what happened and asked for enquiries by text message, but had not replied at press time.
Obasanjo also spoke about her exit from the APC, saying the party treated her badly and she left for the PDP, which welcomed her.
She asked why her former associates still take interest in her and in the internal affairs of the PDP.
She called for more attention to the safety of politicians and supporters, warning that continued violence could weaken public trust in the election.
