The Nigerian Army has opened three new military units in Zamfara State to help improve security and respond faster when trouble happens.

The Nigerian Army has activated three new Infantry Battalions in Zamfara State to strengthen security operations and improve quick response across the state.
The Army Public Relations office of 1 Brigade in Gusau announced this on Tuesday online.
The new units are the 12 Infantry Battalion in Bakura, 23 Infantry Battalion in Kaura Namoda and 28 Infantry Battalion in Anka.
They are expected to widen the Army's coverage and secure their areas of responsibility.
At the activation ceremonies, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General BP Koughna, was represented by the Acting Commander of 1 Brigade, Colonel Joseph Umaru.
Umaru said the military will keep working to protect law abiding citizens, adding that lasting peace needs cooperation between security agencies, traditional institutions and communities.
He asked residents to support the forces with timely, credible and useful information.
He also told the new troops to stay disciplined, professional and alert while carrying out their duties within the rules of engagement.
The Emir of Bakura, Alhaji Bello Sani, the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, and the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Maj. Dr Sanusi Mohammed Ahmed (rtd), welcomed the move.
They called it a crucial milestone toward bringing back normal life and improving safety in Zamfara communities, and promised continued support through community mobilisation and information sharing.
The Army said the new battalions will improve its ability to respond fast to security threats across their areas.
