National Rescue Mission presidential candidate Esther Okereke says Nigeria needs leaders who will focus on making life better for ordinary people, not just fighting for political positions.

The presidential candidate of the National Rescue Mission, Esther Okereke, has urged governments and political leaders to focus on sharing prosperity instead of sharing power.
She spoke on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the party's Presidential Campaign Council.
Okereke said leaders have focused on sharing power for too long and that campaigns have been full of noise when they should be about structure, evidence and peace.
She said what Nigeria needs now is not another government but a rescue from darkness, hunger, insecurity, joblessness and hopelessness.
The party's National Chairman, Prince Chinedu Obi, said Nigeria can work again because it has a large and youthful population, vast human capital, big farming potential and a strategic location.
He said the real question is not whether Nigeria has potential but whether it can build the institutions, leadership systems and accountability needed to turn that potential into better lives for citizens.
Obi said social justice means an order where citizenship, opportunity, public resources and the protection of law do not depend on ethnicity, religion, social status, political connection or access to power.
He described the rule of law as the operating system of a working state, where predictable laws let citizens plan, credible institutions attract investors, enforceable contracts raise productivity and accountable officials build public confidence.
He said parts of China's anti-corruption experience, especially its focus on institutional discipline and consequences for abuse of office, can be studied for comparison.
But he stressed that Nigeria must build a system that fits its own constitution, democratic institutions and rights, not copy another country.
Obi also said government must run on standard operating procedures instead of the personal preferences of whoever holds office.
He said every ministry, department and agency should have clear mandates, procedures, approval powers, procurement standards, financial controls, reporting rules, performance indicators, audit systems, service standards and consequences for breaking the rules.
The goal, he said, is to move Nigeria from a personality driven system to an institution driven one that works no matter who is in office.
