A room in a building at No. 38 Oluwalogbon Street, Ijooro area of Asa-Dam, Ilorin, Kwara State, was burnt on Tuesday after a spark from solar wiring reportedly set fire to things in the room.
The Kwara State Fire Service said it got a distress call and reached the scene at 4:14pm.
Firefighters started work at once to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
The agency's Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, said this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the building has about three bedroom flats and the fire affected only one room.
The fire was put out before it could spread. A first check showed that the fire started from a spark in the solar wiring, which caught materials in the room.
Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed praised the firefighters for their quick response
. He urged residents to take the safety of their solar and electrical installations seriously, hire qualified professionals to fit them and fix faulty or damaged wiring quickly.
The Fire Service also said regular maintenance is needed, noting that badly fitted or poorly kept wiring is dangerous.
