A 25 year old man has died after a building collapsed in Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The man, identified as Bakeru Iwal, was a worker at the site and was inside the building when part of it caved in during demolition on Tuesday.
Residents and eyewitnesses said the building was being pulled down when a section suddenly fell and trapped him.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said officers from the Otolo Divisional Headquarters rushed to the scene, blocked off the area and started a first investigation.
The scene was recorded and the body was taken to the mortuary, pending autopsy and other checks.
Police Commissioner CP Nnanna Ama ordered a thorough and professional investigation to find out what happened and whether anyone is to blame.
The command asked the public to stay calm while the investigation continues.
Earlier in September, one person was killed and two others were rescued when a two storey building under manual demolition collapsed in the Aboru area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said it happened at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, in Alimosho Local Government Area.
