Former senator Dino Melaye has attacked President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to properly address the worsening security crisis in his Independence Day broadcast.
In a post on his official handle on Friday, Melaye claimed Tinubu mentioned insecurity only once in the nationwide address.
He alleged that more than 1,000 Nigerians are being held by terrorists in different forests across the country.
He also said farmers cannot reach their farmlands because of insecurity and that the issue deserved far more attention in the President's speech.
He said the President left out the most critical issue of insecurity, mentioning it just once while over 1,000 Nigerians are in the hands of their abductors.
He added that farmers cannot go to their farms and innocent people are being killed daily, calling it a pity and a shame.
Online reports note that security challenges have remained a major concern under the Tinubu administration, with banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes recorded in different parts of the country.
On Independence Day, bandits reportedly attacked residents in Kaduna State, killing one person and abducting several others.
