The Enugu State Police Command has identified the woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, as 27-year-old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu.
The command said she was a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, and had recently finished her NYSC.
It shared the update on Friday.
Police said her family has been identified and her parents and siblings were interviewed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, alongside the suspect.
The CP assured the family that justice will be served.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested after the alleged killing at his home in the Olympic Layout area of Enugu.
Police had earlier said he allegedly killed her after an argument over claims about the source of an infection.
They said he hit her on the head with a pestle, wrapped her body in nylon and locked it in the toilet of his apartment.
Neighbours reportedly found the decomposing body after a bad smell drew their attention.
They forced the door open and held the suspect before police arrived.
The body was taken to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect was rescued from an angry mob and re-arrested by officers from the Awkunanaw Division.
In the latest update, the command urged the public, especially women, to be careful in their relationships and make sure a trusted person knows where they are.
It warned people not to assume they are safe with someone just because they know them, saying people can change.
It also urged everyone to stay alert, trust their instincts and avoid getting involved with the wrong person.
