The Jigawa State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Muhammad Baba, has warned corps members not to get involved in cultism or any anti-social act that could disturb peace at the orientation camp.
He gave the warning on Friday at the swearing-in of the 2026 Batch C Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.
A total of 2,000 corps members were deployed to the state.
They took the oath of allegiance from Justice Amina Dahiru, who represented the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Baba welcomed the corps members on behalf of the NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. O.O. Nafiu.
He said the occasion marks a new step in efforts to strengthen national unity and the ties that bind Nigerians.
He said the scheme was set up in 1973 to build the spirit of selfless service, community service and brotherhood among youths, no matter their culture or background.
He added that its core values are patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment and teamwork, and that promoting them helps keep society free from crime and social ills, including youth unemployment.
He urged the corps members to behave well during camp and throughout the service year and to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
He said there will be zero tolerance for any voice or act that disrupts peaceful camp life, and that cultism and anti-social behaviour will be sanctioned immediately and strongly.
He described camp officials as fair, firm and just, with plenty of experience, and asked the corps members to respect them.
He also thanked the Emir of Dutse, Hameem Nuhu, for being a good host.
After the ceremony, corps member Grace Emmanuel from Kaduna State said she is excited to serve in Jigawa and will obey the camp rules.
Another corps member, Zahra'u Inuwa from Nasarawa State, said the orientation has already taught her discipline and unity, and that she wants to use her service year to develop herself and contribute to the state.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of security agencies in the state, top government officials, parents and guardians of some corps members and other stakeholders.
