Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of Freedom Park on Lagos Island from Monday, October 5, to Sunday, October 11, 2026.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture said the closure will allow for planned maintenance, clean-up, fumigation and upgrade works aimed at improving the visitor experience and preserving the historic facility.

The park will reopen to the public immediately after the exercise.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, the ministry said the park is already undergoing rehabilitation and improvement works.

The works include upgrades to facilities, beautification, routine maintenance and better services in other areas of the park, to give members more comfort, convenience and value.

The ministry asked members and visitors to be patient and understanding while the works are on.

It said the aim is to make Freedom Park a better place for recreation, culture, networking and community activities, and that normal activities will resume once the works are done.

The state government also said it regrets any inconvenience the closure may cause and thanked members and visitors for their support.
