The Nigeria Police Force Pensions Limited is considering investing in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals as part of plans to spread its portfolio and keep returns steady for police personnel and retirees.
Acting Managing Director Muhammed Dutse said this on Monday in Abuja during the 2026 Customer Service Week.
He said the company is looking at other investment options because falling interest rates could cut returns from bank deposits and other fixed-income instruments.
He noted that there is a lot of hype around the Dangote refinery and the company is looking at it too.
According to him, the strategy will mix equities with private equity, infrastructure funds and other alternative assets, so the company does not depend only on what banks give.
It is also checking the stock market, including shares of big Nigerian companies.
He said the government has opened up many investment windows, especially in energy, infrastructure and private equity.
Dutse said NPF Pensions has recorded an average yearly return of about 23 to 24 per cent over the past five years, with one year coming close to 37 per cent.
He said strategies are in place to keep that level of performance despite changes in market conditions.
On retirees' concerns about their benefits, he said the Federal Government is working to improve take-home pay and a presidential committee is already looking into it.
He added that the company runs a Retirement Resettlement Support Scheme to give retiring officers temporary support while they wait for their pension benefits.
Pre-retirement programmes also train officers in businesses and skills such as poultry farming.
On customer service, Dutse said NPF Pensions has stepped up direct engagement with contributors and launched a WhatsApp Business platform that has drawn nearly 100,000 police officers.
It lets them access pension services from anywhere without visiting the company's offices.
