The Senate has postponed its two-day national security summit, originally scheduled for October 12 and 13, to honor the victims of the Nigerian Air Force plane crash in Ondo State.
Senate Leader and Committee Chairman Opeyemi Bamidele announced the postponement on Tuesday following President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a three-day national mourning period, during which flags will fly at half-mast nationwide.
The tragedy involved a NAF ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, killing 25 personnel and seven crew members.
Bamidele offered condolences to the victims' families, President Tinubu, and the armed forces, describing the deceased as gallant officers who paid the ultimate price serving their country.
The summit, which aims to address Nigeria's ongoing security challenges and identify solutions to protect lives and property, will be rescheduled for a later date.
