Ogun State Police Command has arrested Adewale Arojah, a prophet's son, for allegedly pretending to be a well-known cleric online and cheating many people out of more than N18m with fake prayers and spiritual help.
The police spokesman, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said on Thursday that the arrest followed a complaint made on October 3, 2026 by Muyiwa Akogun, widely known online as Prophet Dr. Muyiwa Akogun.
Akogun told police that people had been complaining about fraud carried out in his name through a copied online profile.
Officers from the Ilaro Division tracked the suspect to a village in Ajegunle, near the Ilaro and Ibogun axis, and picked him up.
Police say he admitted during questioning that he used the cleric's identity to give fake prophecies and offer prayer services to vulnerable people in Nigeria and abroad.
Police said he went after people looking for spiritual help on the prophet's social media page, won their trust and then collected money from them.
He has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where police will find out how far the crime went, look for possible accomplices and prepare for prosecution.
Ogun Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the Ilaro team for their quick action.
Police also advised the public to be careful when dealing with religious leaders and public figures online.
