The US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, says more than 130 people have been arrested or detained in Ghana in a crackdown on an alleged international scam network that went after American citizens.
FBI Director Kash Patel shared the news online on Thursday in an update on Operation Blackout, a global campaign against scam centres.
Patel said the Ghana operation has so far found nearly $10 million in losses involving 89 victims, and more than 300 devices were seized.
Among those picked up were people identified as victims, who will be sent back to their home countries.
He called it another takedown this week out of Ghana and said the investigation is still going on.
He said the scam compounds targeted Americans and that the move is part of wider efforts to shut down such networks around the world.
Patel also shared the overall results of Operation Blackout.
He said about $17 billion has been seized since it began, hundreds of alleged scammers have been arrested and thousands of trafficked workers have been rescued.
He added that more than 10,000 Americans were warned before they lost their money, and about $670 million in losses was stopped.
He promised that more details will be released.
