The Enugu State Forest Guard has stopped a planned kidnapping.
The gang reportedly travelled from Nasarawa State with help from people on the ground in Enugu.
State surveillance cameras picked up the suspects moving into position.
That alerted nearby security teams, who moved in to intercept them before they could grab their targets.
When the operatives arrived, the suspects opened fire in a short gun battle.
One member of the gang was shot dead.
Others were overpowered and arrested, along with some local helpers who are believed to have assisted the plan.
Weapons and other items were recovered from the scene.
No civilians were hurt.
The suspects have been handed over to the Enugu State Police Command for questioning.
Police will also look into the wider network and how far the gang's activities reach across Nasarawa and Enugu.
