The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has logged 1,324 emergency calls from January to September 2026.

Most of them, 1,135, were fire calls.

The figures come from the service's third quarter report, put out by Senior Public Affairs Officer Fadairo Maria.

The other calls included 79 rescues, 100 salvage jobs, nine building collapses and one gas explosion.

Firefighters pulled 210 people out alive.

They also recovered 65 bodies.

The service received 341 false calls, which can slow down response to real emergencies.

Property worth an estimated N79.44 billion was saved.

Losses came to about N13.24 billion, bringing the total value of affected property to N92.68 billion.

January had the most incidents, with 203, closely followed by March with 201.

September had the fewest, with 94.

March had the most fire calls, 176, while September had the fewest, 80.

Controller-General Margaret Adeseye is asking residents to take care as the dry season sets in.

She says people should stop burning rubbish in the open, store flammable items safely, unplug appliances when not in use, avoid overloading sockets, keep fire extinguishers working and keep exits clear.

She also asked people to report fires quickly and cooperate with responders.
