The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has asked the Tinubu government to suspend the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme until security improves.

The request came in a statement from its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, on Friday.

The group was reacting to the kidnapping of some prospective corps members.

They were released a few days later.

Akintola said insecurity is the biggest problem facing the scheme.

He said young people should not have to pay this price.

He added that the government is responsible for keeping them safe, so it should release all the prospective corps members who were kidnapped.

He said the scheme should stay on hold until the government can guarantee the safety of corps members across the country.
