The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over a clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area.
One person died and several houses were burnt.
The man who died is Usman Jibrin, 40. He passed away while getting treatment for injuries from the fight.
Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib said the trouble started on September 23 2026.
Three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found a herder's cattle eating and destroying their crops.
They chased the cattle back to the herders' settlement, and an argument turned into a fight.
The three farmers were hurt.
Later, some youths from Guda Village went to the herders' settlement and set houses on fire.
Police from the Ningi Division moved quickly, calmed the area and took the injured to the General Hospital in Ningi.
One of the injured farmers died later.
On October 8 the police arrested four suspects.
They face charges of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that they be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a full investigation.
The commissioner said he sympathised with the family of the dead man and with those who lost property.
He warned that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands, and he asked communities, especially farmers and herders, to talk things out and live together peacefully.
