NATO's top commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, has warned anyone thinking of attacking a member state.
Speaking at the 2026 Warsaw Security Forum in Poland on Monday, he said the alliance is ready for combat.
"If attacked, we are ready to fight tonight," the American general said.
He added, "We know how we will fight if a fight comes to us. And we know we will win."
His plan is simple.
Block the first attack, and if it keeps going, hit back hard and stop the enemy from moving forward.
He stressed that NATO is not aiming to crush Russia.
It wants to stop an attack, break the enemy's fighting power and keep it from taking any land.
Moscow has accused Europe of trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia through sanctions and pressure on other countries.
At the same forum, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska pushed allies to spend 5 percent of GDP on defence each year.
She said NATO will keep backing Ukraine and called out Russia's hybrid attacks.
"The real reason why Russia has opted for this kind of attacks or threats is because they want to undermine our unity," she said.
