Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was arrested by police on Monday evening at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.
He is accused of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Police say he ignored several invitations to answer questions in an ongoing investigation.
He was first asked to report to Force Headquarters on September 2.
That date was moved to September 8 at his lawyers' request, but he did not show up.
Police then got a bench warrant for his arrest.
