A court hearing involving former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai has taken a serious turn following a witness statement about a large sum of money.

A DSS forensic investigator, Segun Kayode, told the Kaduna State High Court in Kawo that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and some associates set aside $600,000 to pay EFCC officials and intermediaries.
He said $500,000 and $100,000 were allocated for the payments.
Kayode, the first prosecution witness, testified before Justice Darius Khobo.
He said forensic audio recordings captured conversations about frustrating an EFCC investigation into a company called Singularity.
He said a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, another individual and Bashir El-Rufai were mentioned.
The recordings allegedly discussed liquidating the company in Nigeria and Mauritius, and stopping the EFCC from investigating a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
The defence, led by Paul Erokoro SAN, objected that the witness's name and summary were not in the prosecution's proof of evidence.
The ICPC, represented by Ayodeji Adedipe SAN, said Kayode was a subpoenaed witness.
The judge ruled that the omission did not make his testimony inadmissible, as long as the defence could cross-examine him.
The defence can also get a certified copy of his document, admitted as Exhibit One.
The case was adjourned to November 30 and December 1, 2026 for cross-examination. El-Rufai, who has been in ICPC custody since February 18, 2026, attended the hearing.
The Court of Appeal in Kaduna had dismissed his appeal against the refusal of bail on October 9.
