The Nigeria Immigration Service says one of its officers was killed when armed men attacked two personnel on a routine patrol in Niger State.
The attack happened on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 11:30am, along the Tunga Taya-Woro axis.
The two officers were attached to the service's Wawa Control Post.
The service named the dead officer as Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I.U. Babangida.
He has been buried according to Islamic rites.
The other officer, Inspector A.K. Musa, was seriously injured but escaped and is receiving treatment.
The NIS said it is working with the Niger State Government and other security agencies to find and arrest the attackers.
It also said the attack will not stop it from protecting Nigeria's borders.
