Bauchi State Police have arrested Isiyaka Badamasi, 27, for allegedly poisoning a commercial motorcyclist to steal his bike in Bauchi metropolis.

Police say he was picked up on Wednesday, and his accomplice, Ma'aruf Sani, both from Na'ibawa in Kano State, escaped.

A manhunt is on for the second man.

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said the suspects gave a 21 year old motorcyclist from Yelwa Tudun a sweet laced with a harmful substance.

The victim became dizzy and vulnerable, and the suspects tried to take his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.

He raised the alarm, and members of the public caught Badamasi.

The victim was taken to Gamuwa Primary Health Care Centre, where he is still under treatment and responding well.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered the case to be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The command has urged residents to stay alert.
